常绿灌木。根香，可入药，有健胃作用。
唐 施肩吾 《送人南游》诗：“ 闽县 緑娥能引客， 泉州 乌药好防身。” 明 李时珍 《本草纲目·木一·乌药》﹝集解﹞引 苏颂 曰：“﹝乌药﹞今 台州 、 雷州 、 衡州 皆有之，以 天台 者为胜。木似茶槚，高五七尺，叶微圆而尖……根如车毂纹，形如连株者佳。或云： 天台 者香白可爱，而不及 海南 者力大。”
乌药，中药名。为樟科植物乌药Lindera aggregata( Sims) Kosterm.的干燥块根。全年均可采挖，除去细根，洗凈，趁鲜切片，晒干，或直接晒干。
